Lodging for Jeep King of the Mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho

The inaugural Ski Tour was a big success in January 2007! Its debut presented both locals and visitors alike with the chance to enjoy watching the most progressive and exciting formats in the world of competition skiing today, including skiercross and halfpipe events.

The event returns in 2008 on March 14 – 16 under a new name: Jeep King of the Mountain. Events this year will include snowboarding and women’s competitions. Until then, we leave you with some brief explanations of the events and format:

Skiercross is the most exciting racing format to emerge from the sport in the past decade. Following the success of boardercross in the 2006 Olympics, skiercross (long an X-games event) will join it as an Olympic event in 2010. Skiercross pits four racers in a high speed head-to- head competition on a course with terrain features and jumps similar to motorcross. The excitement of the sport is elevated by the fact that spectators can watch the entire race from start to finish – the entire course is viewable throughout.

The halfpipe is a colossal structure standing 425 feet long and 60 feet wide, with walls towering 18 feet high. Professional pipe skiers soar higher than 20 feet above the lip, twisting and grabbing, each with their own unique style. The competition is judged by combining amplitude and style scores with the difficulty of the stunt. The new generation of skiing is reinventing the way people approach the sport, and as a result it’s enjoying an influx of energy that is unprecedented in the history of snow sports.

In addition to the on-mountain competitions, The Ski Tour features an amazing array of events that creates a festival atmosphere all around Ketchum and Sun Valley. The weekend includes street parties, a bonfire, live music, family fun zones, a film festival and more.

Premier Resorts Sun Valley offers accommodations in several locations within walking distance to the competitions and the evening venues. Book your lodging today by calling: 1-800-635-4444.
